Π pi
Mathematics in Art Piece by Ruth Hingston
This is a case of irrational knitting: a pie made from π. The filling is the first part of the binary expansion of π, knitted in three colours of wool: white for 1, black for 0 and red for the binary point. The number of stitches in each row is calculated to produce a reasonable approximation of a circle. The pie crust is a crocheted piece in orange wool. The pie is served on a white ceramic plate.
